“Our volunteers should strive to earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award every year”, said President Bush. “Even if you’ve never volunteered before, the Award is within reach. In fact, the strength and success of our nation depends on every one of us taking an active role in the community where we live. You can also help strengthen America by asking your friends, families and neighbors to join you in helping your community. Most people say 'yes' if asked to volunteer all it takes is a personal request.”

Eye on the Family Award
Mercy Force promotes family-friendly businesses. Organizations that meet the standards and criteria established by Mercy Force will receive the Eye on the Family Award. This award and quality seal shows that the recipient provides a family-friendly work environment and advances family values.
Mercy Force assists companies in assessing their family-friendly policies, procedures, programs and practices. Mercy Force's engagements in this area typically involve one or all of the following steps:
- Gap Analysis -- Evaluate the policies and practices against internal and external standards, key performance indicators, industry practices, trends and stakeholder perceptions. Continuously identify and examine employee needs through surveys, focus groups, and other data-gathering methods to understand what types of work-life support employees need. These benefits must be tailored to fit both the needs of employees and the goals of the company. Ensure that the data-gathering tool is designed to capture the needs and concerns of single or childless employees as well as those with families.
- Performance Improvement -- Identify family orientation as one of the company's core corporate values and express this value in the company's mission, statement of values and/or employment policies. Communicate this commitment both internally and externally.
- Tracking and Measuring Results -- Track employee participation in initiatives. Assess the usefulness of these programs and how they affect the bottom-line. Compare employee survey results to actual behavior to evaluate the effectiveness of program design or implementation.
